Dream Maker Hot Tub Safety Concerning Electrical Equipment

Hot Tubs and Spas Info Center > Safety >Electrical Equipment

It is important to know where the electricity is for your Dream Maker hot tub and how to be safe around it. There is electricity in your Dream Maker hot tub underwater lights, electrical outlets and switches, and electrical equipment (i.e. pumps, filters, etc...). The electrical units of your Dream Maker hot tub are capable of causing shock or electrocution if you don't take the proper safety precautions. Electrocution is death by an electrical shock. It's important to know that wet skin or wet surfaces (such as a hottubs.com deck) can greatly increase the chance of electrocution when electricity is nearby.

Hottubs.com describes a couple signs that someone is experiencing shock: the Dream Maker hot tub users may be experiencing a tingling feeling while in the water, may feel as though your muscles are cramping up, or you may not be able to move at all and feel like something is holding you down in the water. Also hottubs.com recommends to look out for panic or unsettled behavior from people in the Dream Maker hot tub, or even if there are lights in the hot tub that aren't working properly (for example, flickering lights). Hottubs.com explains, if you feel as though you are being shocked in the water try to move away or out of the water in which you are submerged in. Also, if there is any metal around you, do not touch it since this will increase the risk of danger.

If you witness someone you are with experiencing shock while you are not in the Dream Maker spa water turn off all the power. Do not try to save them with the power on or else you will be putting yourself at risk as well. Also, call 911 or yell out for someone else to call 911. Then, if all the power is turned off of the hottubs.com you can attempt to rescue the victim with a fiberglass rescue hook and get the victim out of the Dream Maker hot tub water completely and lay them on the ground. If the victim isn't breathing then perform CPR, and if they are breathing then see if they need any further assistance. A trip to the hospital may be necessary.

Hottubs.com recommends the following list of important things to be careful of when you are dealing with the electrical components of your hot tub:

  • Do not use an electrical cord that is repaired or damaged with tape
  • Keep electrical cords and wires out of reach and at least five feet away from contact with the Dream Maker hot tub water
  • Use portable GFCIs (ground fault circuit interrupters) where permanently installed GFCI-protected outlets are not available
  • Hottubs.com explains if an electrical product falls into the water by accident unplug it before removing it. DO NOT touch the Dream Maker hot tub water in any manner until it is unplugged or else you will risk being shocked or electrocuted.
  • Know where all the Dream Maker hot tub electrical switches and circuit breakers are and know how to turn them off in case of an emergency
  • Learn CPR and rescue breathing procedures
  • Make sure the hottubs.com GFCIs are installed on underwater lighting circuits operating at more than 15 volts
  • Signs of mold or other microorganisms growth on the inside of the hottubs.com lights indicate leakage
Know where emergency equipment is stored
  • Have a licensed electrician or technician inspect and upgrade your Dream Maker hot tub according to local codes and the national electrical code (NEC)
